Obituary of Millicent K. Morrison

Millicent Katherine Zinser Morrison passed away peacefully on June 22, 2023.  She was born at home on Westville Ave, Danbury, on July 24, 1930, along with her twin sister, Marilyn Zinser Moody, to Henry and Isabelle Mignerey Zinser.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, John Chase Morrison, her loving daughter Mary Beth Morrison, her devoted son John Chase Morrison Jr. (Chip) and his wife Diane, 4 wonderful grandchildren, Anna Carpenter and her husband Tyler Bishop of Saint Paul, Minnesota, Chase Carpenter of Stratford, Grant Morrison of Brookfield and Ben Morrison of Middletown.  She is also survived by 3 exceptional Great-Grandchildren, Aubrey, Mina and Alex Carpenter Bishop. There are many beautiful nieces, nephews, and extended family.  She was the last of her large loving family, predeceased by her parents, her sisters Bette Keenan and Marilyn Moody, and brother Raymond Zinser.

Millicent graduated from Danbury High School, class of 1948, and went immediately into nursing school at Danbury Hospital School of Nursing.  From 1951 to 1955 she worked as a surgical nurse at Danbury Hospital.

She married John on January 31, 1954, in a winter wedding at the First Congregational Church of Danbury. She continued her career after they moved to Delaware while John was in the service. Upon moving back to Danbury, she returned to  nursing at Danbury Hospital. The family moved to Brookfield, CT, in 1963. From 1965 to 1970, she worked as a substitute school nurse in Danbury. In 1970 she began a 25 year career as a school nurse in Center School Elementary. Her nursing career enriched her life with many long lasting and dear friendships.

As a devoted member of Brookfield Congregational Church, she served in many capacities.  She was a Deacon, and in 1969, she and John served as the first chairs of the Yankee Fair and Barn Sale, which was dedicated to helping the people of Biafra.  The annual fair has gone on now successfully for 54 years.  She enjoyed extensive traveling with John all over the world.  She led an active lifestyle, oil painting, gardening, quilting, swimming, hiking, and cross country skiing.  She and Marilyn particularly loved the ocean, especially Compo Beach and Sherwood Island.  The place that was truly part of her soul was Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, where she and John had a cabin.  She loved opening her home to friends and family there and did for many happy summers.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 1, at 11 a.m., at the Congregational Church of Brookfield, 160 Whisconier Road, Brookfield, CT 06804. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Millicents name to the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association, 27 Governor St., Ridgefield, CT 06877, or by going on-line at https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E13063&id=32
