Obituary of Fred J Yorks, Jr.
Mr. Fred J. Yorks, Jr., age 81, of Danbury, died Saturday May 26, 2018 at the Regional Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Danbury. He was the husband of Charlene F. (Peck) Yorks.
Mr. Yorks was born May 29, 1936 in New Paltz, New York son of the late Fred J. Yorks, Sr. and the late Catherine Agnes (Quick) Yorks. He retired in 1984 after working for many years as a machine welder at Gilbert Bennett and also worked as a swap driver at Colonial Ford. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially his favorite driver Mark Martin, bowling, playing SLINGO, doing puzzles with his caretaker Heather, his love of CB radios as Smokestack/KDY4598 and receiving his daily phone calls from his nephew Ed and niece Brenda.
Mr. Yorks proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.
In addition to his wife Charlene, Mr. Yorks is survived by his sons Fred R. Yorks of Spring Hill, FL and James Yorks of Danbury, his daughter: Barbara Farrell of Brookfield and Spring Hill, FL, his sister: Gloria Jean Daniel of FL, 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Robert Yorks and his sisters Catherine Smith-McGarry and Freida Terwilliger
Funeral services for Mr. Yorks will be held on Thursday May 31, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury. Burial with full military honors will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Bethel. Mr. Yorks family will receive family and friends at the funeral home on Thursday May 31, 2018 from 10 to 11 a.m. A further celebration of Fred’s life will take place on Thursday May 31 at 1 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 134 Triangle St. Danbury.
