Obituary of Elizabeth C. Hand

Elizabeth C. Hand October 28, 1923 - December 04, 2008 Elizabeth "Betty" Catherine (Bordeleau) Hand, age 85, formerly of Bethel, wife of the late Kenneth A. Hand, passed on to eternal life on Thursday, December 4th at Danbury Hospital. She was born in Newark, NJ on October 28, 1923, daughter of the late John and Anna (Geldhauser) Bordeleau. Mrs. Hand was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danbury and the AARP. Betty had many fond memories of childhood summers on the New Jersey shore. She was the valedictorian of her high school class and retained a lifelong interest in education. Previous to her retirement, Betty enjoyed working in the food services industry and was a restaurant manager. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, and spending time with her family. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Dr. Christine Rowe and her husband, Jim of Bethel; her grandchildren, James and Holly Rowe of Fairfield, and Kenneth Hand, III of Wilmington, NC; and her daughter-in-law, Catherine Hand. She is also survived by her brother, John Bordeleau and his wife, Elizabeth of Goldsboro, NC; her sister, Helen Mandel and her husband, Edward of South Amboy, NJ; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Kenneth A. Hand, Jr. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 18 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury, on Tuesday, December 9th at 11:00am. Cremation will take place at the direction of the family. The family will receive friends on Tuesday morning between 10:00 and 11:00am at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Cornell Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements. Betty's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the love and support received from Immanuel Lutheran Church, the members of the Board of Lay Ministry, Reynolds Ridge, the Bethel VNA, Almost Family, Meals on Wheels, Filosa, and the Danbury Hospital. Donations Information In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Concordia College in Bronxville, New York for the Elizabeth C. Hand Memorial Scholarship Fund. Donations to Concordia College may be mailed to Office of Advancement, Concordia College, 1 71 White Plains Rd., Bronxville, NY 10708.
