Obituary of Douglas W. Grund

Douglas W. Grund November 28, 1942 - November 29, 2005 Douglas William Grund, 63, beloved husband of Jeannette (Perugini) Grund, loving son of the late William and Evelyn Grund; loving brother of the late Stephanie (Grund) Musgrove; and brother of William Grund, Jr. Mr. Grund died on Tuesday, November 29th at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak Michigan, surrounded by his friends and relatives. He was born on November 28, 1942 in Manhattan, NY. He attended the New York Parochial Schools, graduating from Archbishop Molloy and moving on to the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, graduating in 1964. After attending one year at Boston Law College he was drafted into the Army's 1st Armored Division Fort Hood Texas. He worked in the Adjutant General Staff. Upon his discharge he secured a job with Aetna Life and Casualty, achieving the Director of Claims for the Mid-West States. He was also active in local politics in Brookfield, CT., serving as Republican Town Chairman and working on the campaigns of Dick Kilbourne and Lowell Weicker. He was voted one of the 1000 Outstanding young men of America in 1973. He was a member of the Sorin Society at the University of Notre Dame; and voted Layman of the Year, YMCA in 1978 in Denver Colorado. After leaving AETNA he was appointed Director of Claims Management with National Catholic Services. He developed the VIRTUS Program and Protecting God's Children. In addition, was President of Farmington Brook Home Owners Association 1996-2000; Detroit Claims Managers Council President 1984-1989 and Chairman 1986 - 1989. In addition to his wife he is survived by his wife, Jeannette; his brother, William Grund, Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 5th at 10:00am at St. Joseph Church in Brookfield, CT. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury, CT. The family will receive friends at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, CT on Sunday, December 4th between the hours of 2:00- 4:00pm and 6:00- 9:00pm.
