Gertrude R. Eriksen, 80, formerly of Brookfield , beloved wife of the late Kenneth Eriksen Jr., died at Candlewood Valley Healthcare Center on Saturday, March 27th. She was born in New Milford on October 14, 1929, daughter of the late Edward L. Sr., and Gertrude S. (Hall) Matson.
Mrs. Eriksen was a graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional High School. She worked as a payroll administrator for the Danbury News-Times for 25 years. Prior to her employment with News-Times she worked for Frank H. Lee Hat Company.
She was a remarkably giving person and opened her home and heart to care for friends in need. She enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, working with her horses and other animals on her family farm on Nabby Road. She was an active member of the Newbury Congregational Church in Brookfield.
She will be sadly missed by her six brothers, Edward L. Matson Jr. and his wife Paddy of Kent; Samuel H. Matson of Florida and New Hampshire; Ralph A. Matson and his wife, Frances of Kent; Douglas L. Matson and his wife, Jackie of Kent; Walter L. Matson and his wife, Judy of Danbury and Jay G. Burwell. She is also survived by twenty nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her two sisters, Claire Hinkell and Marian Scott. Funeral Information
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 1st at 2:00pm at the Newbury Congregational Church in Brookfield Donations Information
