Obituary of Josephine Ciaccio

Sr. Josephine Ciaccio, CND July 17, 1924 - May 26, 2008 Sr. Josephine Ciaccio, a member of the Congregation of Notre Dame, died at Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton, CT on May 26, 2008 at the age of 83. Born in Chicago Heights, Illinois, Sr. Josephine was the daughter of Rose (Peri) and Joseph Ciaccio. Sister completed her elementary and secondary education at St. Joseph Seminary in Kankakee, IL. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Francis College in Joliet, IL and a Master of Arts degree in Education from DePaul University in Chicago, IL. Sr. Josephine professed her first vows as a Sister of the Congregation of Notre Dame on August 20, 1947. She served many years as a well loved elementary school teacher in Illinois and New York. In her later years, Sr. Josephine taught English as a Second Language at Kankakee Community College in Kankakee, IL. Sr. Josephine's quiet, gentle presence and her genuine love and concern for all, especially God's most needy, won for her a place in the hearts of all who knew her. Sr. Josephine is mourned by her community, the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rose and Joseph Ciaccio and her brothers Anthony and Joseph. She is survived by her brothers Dominic, Francis, John, Sam, and Leo and their spouses and by many nieces and nephews and their children. Funeral Information Friends may call at Villa Notre Dame, 345 Belden Hill Road in Wilton, CT on Thursday, May 29 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Villa Notre Dame at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 30. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Danbury.
