Obituary of Donald Chase Burr
Donald Chase Burr Sr.
July 26, 1930 - March 31, 2014
Donald Chase Burr, Sr., a life-long resident of Brookfield, CT, died peacefully at his home on March 31st. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth Berglund Burr and the son of the late Lawrence M. and Helen S. Burr, Sr.
Don was born at Danbury Hospital on 7/26/30. He grew up with his large family on Burr Farm. He graduated from Danbury High School in 1948 and went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954. Don and Ruth were married 10/20/51 and they spent close to 60 years together. They returned to Brookfield in 1955 to raise their family. Don was a long standing Brookfield Rural Mail Carrier for thirty years and a volunteer fireman for 50 years as it was a family tradition to 'give back' to the community.
He'll be remembered first and foremost for his love of family. Don loved to travel, tend to his roses, read and do his crosswords. In addition, he had a strong passion for NASCAR racing and antique cars. Don also loved History and reading about it. He had a wonderful sense of humor and would always tell it 'like it was'. He will also be remembered for his positive outlook on life and his pragmatic nature.
Don will be sadly missed by his two sisters Marjorie Carmody and Marilyn Ober and brother Jay Burr; his three children and their spouses, Debra B. and George Loya, Jr., Kimberly R. and Chris Curschmann, and Don C., Jr. and Beth Burr; his 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
