Obituary of Edward J. Bucko

Edward J. Bucko March 12, 1921 - February 26, 2007 Edward J. Bucko, 85, of New Fairfield, beloved husband of Theresa (Lobraico) Bucko, died at Danbury Hospital on Monday, February 26, 2007. He was born in Windham on March 12, 1921, son of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Pashua) Bucko. Mr. Bucko was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Navy. He served on the USS Leonard Wood, USS Thomas Stone, USS Dorthea L. Dix, USS Monrovia, USS Barnett, USS Susan B. Anthony, USS Almaack, and the USS Belle Grove. He fought during the invasions of North Africa, Sicily, Iwo Jima, and twice in the Marshall Islands, and the Marianas Island. He often reminisced about his years in the Navy, stating that his proudest day as an American was being present for the raising of the United States Flag at Iwo Jima. He enjoyed lifetime membership in the Danbury VFW, was a member of the Iwo Jima Survivors Association and was an avid Yankee Fan. Upon returning from the Navy, Mr. Bucko worked as a well driller, owning and operating Edward J. Bucko Company. Edward and his cherished wife, Theresa, were married for 51 years. Their life together was filled with love, devotion and most importantly, friendship. They were inseparable. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, Donald Bucko of Danbury; his sister, Leona Pavone of Willimantic; his two sisters-in-law, Catherine Vetrano and Frances Hinkley. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his four brothers, Joseph, John, George and Albert; and his four sisters, Anna, Theresa, Margaret and Leona. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Friday, March 2nd at 11:00am. Burial in Mountain View Cemetery will follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday morning between 10:00 and 11:00am.
