Leonard W. Tobias April 21, 1920 - May 24, 2005 Leonard William Tobias, age 85, of Fieldstone Rd., Brookfield, died on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 in New Milford. He was the husband of Mildred (Waidelich) Tobias. Mr. Tobias was born in New York City on April 21, 1920, a son of the late Lester and Mildred (Bailey) Tobias. He grew up in New Haven and Hamden. An Army veteran of WWII, he served in the European theater of operations from 1942 to 1945. A graduate of the University of Connecticut under the G.I. bill, with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Len worked primarily in the Aerospace Engineering field. He specialized in mechanical design and safety. His work took him to New Jersey, Colorado, and Iowa. He retired in 1984 from Energy Research Corporation of Danbury. After retirement, he returned to work as a consultant. Len had many gifts which he shared with his family and friends- his love for reading began at an early age. A professional jazz pianist, songs and music flowed effortlessly from his heart and fingers to the paper, one after the other. He enjoyed making food for gatherings of family and friends, woodworking, painting and sketching. Besides his devoted wife of 50 years, Len is survived by a son: Craig M. of Kew Gardens, NY; two daughters: Amanda S. of Danbury and Barbara J. of Chesterfield, MA; a sister: Mrs. James Noland of Thomaston, CT and several nieces and nephews. We appreciate all the help provided to us these last several years: people, caregivers, hospitals, doctors, dialysis center, heart centers, and New Milford Health & Rehabilitation for nourishing and caring for Len over the last few years.
