Obituary of Ernest Walter Tilford

Ernest Walter Tilford September 18, 1938 - September 01, 2007 Ernest Walter Tilford, 68, of Knollcrest Drive, Brookfield, devoted husband of Elaine Kathryn (Piskura) Tilford, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 1st. He was born in Danbury on September 18, 1938, son of the late Walter Charles Tilford and Mildred (Laughlin) Miller. At the age of seven, Ernest's father, Walter C. Tilford was killed in World War II, Okinawa. Ernest was raised by his stepfather, Raymond Miller, Jr., of Bethel. Ernest was a graduate of Bethel High School, class of 1957. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during peacetime in Germany. He worked as Plant Manager for Ullmans Devices in Ridgefield for 47 years. An avid bowler, he was a member of the Danbury Industrial League from 1960 until 2005. He also enjoyed golf and cultivating his vegetable garden. He loved to share the vegetables he had grown. Most importantly, he was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed. In addition to his cherished wife, Elaine, and stepfather, Raymond, he is survived by his son, Walter C. Tilford and his wife, Deborah of Richmond, VA; his three daughters, Tammy Caporale and her husband, Thomas of Richmond, VA, Pamela LaBier of Brookfield, and Susan Schappert of Brookfield; his seven grandchildren, Sean, Alexandra and Nicholas Caporale, Lance and Brett LaBier, Michael and Coty Schappert. He is also survived by his brother, Raymond Miller, III of New Fairfield; as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, at 10:00am at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield. Cremation will take place at the direction of the family. The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Tuesday between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00pm.
