Obituary of Vincent L. Spina

Vincent L. Spina October 16, 1924 - June 08, 2005 Vincent Louis Spina, age 80, of Brookfield passed away on June 8th with his family at his bedside. He was the husband of Joni (Romano) Spina. He was the youngest of 11 children born on October 16, 1924 to Louis and Vincenza (Capuano) Spina of Astoria, Queens, NY. Vincent served with the 8th Armored Division in WWII; was in the Battle of the Bulge; drove a half-track; and was awarded the Bronze Star for his courageous efforts. After the war, Vincent met Marion Lemma , they were married for 52 years until her death in 2001. They later moved to Long Island then settled in Brookfield in 1988. He was a butcher in his earlier years and later worked as a chauffeur for the Marine Midland Bank and was known to help out anyone who needed a ride. As a proud member of the VFW, he was involved in parades and spoke in local schools about his experiences in WWII. As an active member of the Amerigo Vespucci Lodge in Danbury, he enjoyed volunteering his help in the Italian Summer Feasts. He was also a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and helped out in the kitchen with AARP. Vincent has touched the lives of so many people with his outgoing, energetic personality. Words cannot express the loss felt by so many. He was truly a special man and will be missed by all. Besides his wife, he is survived by his two daughters: Roseanne Britton and her husband Robert of Brookfield and their children: Todd, Cam, Mike, Melissa, and Jennifer; Janet McCabe and her husband John of Bethel and their children: Kelly, Christine, and Kaitlyn; a sister: Rafaela Stride of PA; 3 great grandchildren: Sandy, Alex, and Kevin; two stepdaughters: Angela Romano of Boston, MA and Marjorie Romano of Miami, FL. He was predeceased by a grandson Lan and 9 brothers and sisters. Funeral Information A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 10, 2005 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield. There are no calling hours. The Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Rd., Brookfield is in charge of arrangements.
