Obituary of David T. Bono

David T. Bono March 16, 1927 - November 06, 2004 David T. Bono "Dave", dedicated Brookfield citizen and volunteer, died on November 6, 2004 at the age of 77. He was the husband of Bernadette (Powell) Bono. He was born on March 16, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY, a son of the late Deodato and Anna (O'Keefe) Bono. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. He graduated with honors from Bay Ridge Evening High School in 1948 and earned Bachelors in Business Administration from St. John's University in 1953. Mr. Bono had an accomplished financial career, serving in auditing and management positions for UniRoyal and HeliCoil; as an Assistant Controller for the New York Stock Exchange; as Controller for the American Stock Exchange, and for the last 17 years of his career, as national Controller for Dictaphone/Pitney Bowes in Bridgeport, CT. A resident since 1959, Mr. Bono was a driving force in many civic, political and recreational activities in Brookfield. He was the former Chairman of the Board of Education serving on the board from 1978 to 1981. He coached several championship girls' softball teams for the Brookfield Baseball Association, coached Pop Warner Football, was a Cub Scouts Pack Leader, treasurer of the PTA, and an active member of the Candlewood Shores Property Owners Association. Dave loved the water and spent most of his summer weekends motor-boating on Candlewood Lake. An avid and proficient golfer, Dave scored a remarkable four hole-in-ones over the years, and was a familiar figure on the greens of the Heritage Village Country Club in Southbury. Dave was known for his sense of humor, he loved a party, and he always had an easy smile. He was a patriot, successful businessman, dedicated public servant, and beloved husband, father and grandfather. Most important, he was a kind and ethical man who led a principled life, and who will be missed by all. In addition to his wife of 50 years, he is survived by 2 sons: John J. Bono of Brookfield, David L. Bono and his wife Lisa of Bethel; a daughter: Maureen Schenfeld and her husband Paul of New Jersey; 2 brothers: Anthony J. Bono of Quaker Hill, CT, Thomas P. Bono of Florida; a sister: Margaret Mary Lee also of Florida; 4 grandchildren: Catherine, Patricia, David and Victoria; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at 10:00 am at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, Brookfield. The family will receive friends on Monday afternoon from 2:00 until 4:00pm and in the evening from 7:00 to 9:00pm at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 746 Federal Road, Brookfield.
