Obituary of George William Schofield

George William Schofield April 26, 1932 - August 08, 2009 George Schofield, a resident of Newtown since 1995, cherished husband of Norma (Nixon) Schofield, died in the early hours of Saturday morning, August 8th at Danbury Hospital. He was born on April 26, 1932, son of the late George and Esther (Abrams) Schofield. He was a faithful member and Lay Reader at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Brookfield Before coming t o Connecticut, Mr. Schofield, a London-born industrial chemist, lived for twenty years in Venezuela where he managed various factories manufacturing extruded rubber goods. At the same time, he was a freelance contributor to the English language daily newspaper, and other publications. A writer at heart, Mr. Schofield contributed to the BBC WW2 People's War project, archiving memories of those who experienced World War II. His contributions can be found at bbc.co.uk/dna/ww2/a5289474. He also penned his memoirs of the war: The Shrapnel Pickers, A Child's Eye View of the Second World War. Just before his death, he had also finished a novel about life in Venezuela during the oil boom years, 1960-1980 and he was working on a book of short stories about life in London in the 1940's. In addition to his beloved wife of 27 years, Norma Schofield, he will be sadly missed by his daughter, Melanie Schofield of Stamford, and stepson, Gregory McGee of White Plains, NY, his sister, Eileen Cherriman and niece Paula Cherriman, both of whom reside in Sussex, England, and brothers-and-sisters-in law, James and Lea Nixon of Stamford, and George and Heather Nixon of Tasmania, Australia. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church on Friday, August 14th at 11:00am.
