Obituary of Howard Mead Blackman

Howard Mead Blackman January 10, 1925 - April 27, 2006 Howard Mead Blackman, of Short Woods Road, New Fairfield, devoted husband of Shirley Mae (Fanning) Blackman, died at Pope John Paul Center for Healthcare on Thursday, April 27th. He was born in Brookfield on January 10, 1925, son of the late William and Grace (Mead) Blackman. Mr. Blackman was a Veteran of World War II, serving in Europe with the United States Army. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon. Mr. Blackman owned and operated Blackman Service Station on Germantown Road since 1968. He was a member of the Congregational Church of New Fairfield. In addition to his wife of 57 years, Shirley, he is survived by his two sons, Ronald M. Blackman and his wife, Lori, James H. Blackman and his wife, Debra, all of New Fairfield; and his two daughters, Cheryl A. Pelletier and her husband, Joel, of Torrington, and Dawn L. Ruehl and her husband, Calvin of Raleigh, North Carolina. He is also survived by his twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be held at the Congregational Church of New Fairfield on Monday at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery, Brookfield. The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Sunday between the hours of 6:00 and 9:00pm. Donations Information Memorial Contributions in his memory may be made to the Congregational Church of New Fairfield.
