Stephen Omasta Sr.
April 20, 1926 - November 21, 2006
Stephen Omasta Sr., 80, entered into the arms of our Lord and Savior on November 21, 2006, in the home he built, after a courageous battle with Leukemia. He was surrounded by his beloved wife Ethel and his loving family.
Steve was born in Danbury on April 20th 1926, son of the late John and Susan Omasta. In addition to his wife of 55 years, Ethel (Sivacek), he will be sadly missed by his children: Stephen Jr. "Skip" and wife Sandy, Susan Tracey and husband Bruce, Mark and wife Valory, Nancy Crampton and husband Rich, Thomas and wife Linda.
"Dedo's" legacy of love, faith, and family will live on through his cherished grandchildren: T.J., Stephanie and Lindsey Omasta; Caitlin and Kelly Tracey; Kristen Omasta; Sarah, Rick, Teague and Seth Crampton. He is survived by his sisters Susan Doktor, Anne Mato, sister-in-law Dee Omasta, brother-in-law Martin Sivacek and wife Clara. Steve's nieces, nephews, 13 Godchildren, best friends Marlene and George and friends in Danbury and Ft. Myers, FL will miss him. Steve was predeceased by his brother John, his sister Betty Beardsley, and granddaughter Meagan Tracey.
He attended Danbury schools and enlisted in the Navy, serving as a Sea Bee in the Pacific Theater of WWII. Steve, a life member of the local bricklayers union, was the mason foreman on numerous area buildings. A 58 year volunteer firefighter for Independent Hose Co. #4, he served as a trustee for over 40 years. He was the Financial Secretary for The United Lutheran Society # 145, member of Sokol Lodge #30, American Legion, Richter Park Seniors, Seven Lakes FL Men's Golf Club, Island X-8 Sea Bee Veterans and active in Republican Politics.
Steve was a dedicated life long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church serving in countless positions including Council President, Superintendent of Sunday School, and chairman of the maintenance committee and annual Fall Festival.
He was an avid NY Yankees, NY Giants, and UConn fan. In his retirement Steve enjoyed golf, was affectionately known as "Mr. Middle" and carded 3 hole-in-1s.
His positive attitude and sense of humor was always an inspiration to all and helped his family through his illness.
Steve's family is deeply grateful for all who cared for him especially the staffs at the Praxair Cancer Center, 11 East, hospital transporters Amy and Jose, and Hospice nurse Joan. Funeral Information
Funeral Services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, on Saturday, November 25th at 11:30am, Rev. Alan German, and Rev. Dr. Martha Kline-Larson, officiating. Cremation and interment in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Friday between the hours of 3:00 and 7:00pm. The Cornell Memorial Home is in charge or arrangements. Donations Information
