Obituary of Robert W. Martin

Robert W. Martin October 31, 1925 - May 23, 2009 Robert W. Martin, of Danbury, devoted husband of Betty-Jean (Rockwood) Martin, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, May 23rd. He was born on October 31, 1925, in New Haven, son of the late Thomas & Ruth (Doolittle) Martin. He attended Stamford High School, graduating in 1943, and attended The Jean Morgan School of Art in New York. Bob served in, and was honorably discharged from both the US Maritime and the US Army, serving during World War II. His first fulltime job was serving as a city letter carrier in the Stamford Post Office which he had many fond memories. Bob was later employed by the Peabody Engineering Company. He functioned in engineering and management positions during his 38 years there. Bob remained an active participant in their retirement group PECRA and enjoyed the fellowship with his former coworkers. Bob's first priority, his family, was established on October 18, 1947 when he married his childhood sweetheart, Betty-Jean Rockwood. Together they raised three daughters, taught Sunday School and provided a base of support and love to a multitude of family and friends. In addition to his wife of 61 years, Betty-Jean, he will be sadly missed by his three daughters, Susan Quimby and her husband, James of New Milford, Christine Martin of Danbury, Linda Anderson and her husband, Russell, of New Milford; his two grandchildren, Robert Quimby and Jaime Anderson; and his brother, Thomas Martin of Newtown. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Martin. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Friday, May 29th at 1:00pm. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, New Fairfield. The family will receive friends on Friday morning between the hours of 12:00 and 1:00pm.
