Obituary of Harold Carney Manko

Harold Carney Manko November 03, 1927 - October 26, 2007 Harold Carney Manko of Brookfield died Wednesday, September 26 in New Milford Hospital from complications due to his illness, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Mr. Manko was born in Mazatlan, Mexico on November 3, 1927 to Austin H. and Julia (Chervenak) Manko. His family then moved to Bridgeport, CT where Mr. Manko, a Brooklyn Dodgers fan, grew up and attended high school. He went on to serve in WWII as part of the Naval Coast Guard. He returned to Mexico on the GI Bill, attending the City College of Mexico City where he majored in theater and played football. Mr. Manko was a salesman for Hewitt Business Systems (Brookfield) and retired in 1992. He was a member of the Brookfield Playhouse and won best actor for his role as Otto Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank. His other plays included Our Town, Detective Story, Dial M for Murder, and most recently Come Back Little Sheba. Mr. Manko was a devoted, loving husband and father. He is survived by his family; his wife, Carol; son, Paul E. Manko; daughter Vanessa K. Manko; and sister, Olga Selleck along with several nieces and nephews.
