Obituary of Loretta Marilyn Malek

Loretta Marilyn Malek April 22, 1928 - February 21, 2007 Loretta Marilyn Malek, age 78, died at Danbury Hospital on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 22, 1928 in Streator, IL to the late Dale and Jeanette (Jacobs) Cochran. She attended school in Maywood, IL and graduated from Proviso Township High School in 1946. Upon graduation, she began working for the Telephone Company. On February 18, 1950 she was united in marriage to Joseph Vincent Malek at St. Rita Roman Catholic Church in Cicero, IL. Together they started their family in Chicago, then Elmhurst, Illinois before moving to California. Over the subsequent years, they relocated to Wisconsin, New Jersey and Ontario (Canada) before finally moving to Brookfield, CT in 1973. In 1979, she faced life without Joseph, who lost his own fight with cancer. Marilyn was formerly a member of the Ridgewood Country Club in Danbury, where she was a longtime member of the ladies bowling league and a regular organizer of their holiday luncheons. Marilyn was an active member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Brookfield. She provided over twenty-five years of service to the Catechism program there. In addition, she served as a Eucharistic Minister for a number of years and had also served on the Martha and Mary Ministry. Marilyn's hobbies included gardening, collecting and making dolls, and traveling with her family. She especially enjoyed entertaining family and her many friends in her home. A hidden talent nurtured later in life, Marilyn also built, decorated and furnished dollhouses. Marilyn is survived by her children and their spouses, Joseph Dale and Constance Malek of Beverly Farms, MA, Marie Malek of Woodstock, IL, Richard and Catherine Malek of Brookfield, and Michael Malek also of Brookfield. In addition, she is survived by a sister, Lois Bonacher of Bellwood, IL, one niece and two nephews, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral Information Funeral services for Loretta Marilyn Malek will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, February 24, 2007 at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Newtown, CT. The family will receive friends at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, on Friday, February 23rd between the hours of 3:00 and 8:00pm.
