Obituary of Celia Lovequist

Celia Lovequist February 11, 1916 - February 22, 2009 Celia Lovequist, 93, longtime resident of New Fairfield, died Sunday, February 22 at Danbury Hospital, after suffering a stroke in December. Celia was born in Gloucester, MA., February 11, 1916, to Jacob and Lempi (Hagstrom) Kallio. Her family moved to New Haven, then Byrum. Celia attended High School in Greenwich. She married Louis H. Lovequist, of White Plains, on August 15, 1937 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Byrum. Celia and Louis lived in Port Chester, NY where their two children were born. The family moved permanently to New Fairfield in 1964, at the time of founding Candlewood Printers in Danbury. Celia's hard work alongside her husband contributed to its success. Celia and Louis were charter members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Brookfield where Celia was a teacher at the Nursery School and a member of the Naomi Circle and 60 plus Club. Celia was a member of Vasa Kronan Lodge No. 2 in Danbury. She is survived by her daughter Karen Lovequist, her sister Anne Long of Voluntown, and her sister Elma Anderson and brother Ray Kallio of Norwich, and three generations of nieces and nephews. Celia was predeceased by her son, Stuart Lovequist and her husband, Louis Lovequist. Celia had many dear friends in the community, especially her fellow Lodge members, church members, and her longtime neighbors. Celia appreciated everyone, and was such a lovely and sincere woman who would make a friend in five minutes. She loved to percolate a pot of coffee and converse. She took care of so many people in so many ways. She knew the hardships during the Depression, yet found her strength in family, friends and community. Her terrific sense of humor helped her enjoy life. Celia's memory for details and events was amazing. She was the family historian. Funeral Information Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cornell Funeral Home in Danbury. Memorial Service will be held at 12 pm, Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Brookfield.
