Obituary of Stephen Krizan

Stephen Krizan October 22, 1917 - November 02, 2008 Stephen Krizan ("Unc"), 91, of Danbury, passed away peacefully at Danbury Hospital on Sunday, November 2nd. Steve was the husband of his late, beloved wife, Anna (Rajcok) Krizan. His adventures were numerous and diverse. The pleasures he got out of life ranged from picking the "right" kind of wild mushroom and making his delicious soup to the many wonderful ways he went about talking of his life's experiences. Everyone that listened knew it was Steve's way or no way! His life really was full and extraordinary. He worked as a hatter for Mallory Hat Shop and retired as a machinist for Jovil Manufacturing Co. Steve was on duty as a signalman in the turret of the U.S.S. Savannah when it was bombed off the coast of Salerno Italy in WWII. He witnessed many of his Navy buddies perish on that horrible day. He also served on the battle cruiser U.S.S. Alaska in the Pacific Theater. He was one of four brothers serving the country in WWII and lost his brother John, who was killed in action in Tunisia, North Africa. Stephen will be missed terribly by his eight siblings, George and his wife, Marlene, Elizabeth Krizan, Susan Henderson and her husband, Bob, Cris Musgrave, Samuel and his wife, Marie, Paula Scozzafava and her husband, John, Emil, Daniel and his wife, Nancy; his sisters-in-law, Vivian and Catherine Krizan. He is also survived by his many nephews and nieces who played such an important role in his life; as well as his faithful German shepherd, Penny. He was predeceased by his wife, Anne; his mother and father, Anna and John Krizan; his sister, Anna; and brothers, John, Paul, and Martin; and his sister-in-law, Carol. Steve's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Danbury Hospital 8th Floor, for their caring assistance in Steve's final days. Funeral Information Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Cornell Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
