Obituary of Nidia Rebo

Nidia Rebo, wife of the late Joseph S. Rebo, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 25th, 2024 at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, at the age of 83.  Nidia was born on April 5th, 1940 in Holguin-Oriente, Cuba, as the daughter of the late Antonio Aristonico Gonzalez-Raspall and mother Ana Marina (Avilés-Geigel) Gonzalez, both of Cuba.

She lived her youngest years in Cuba, and as a young girl migrated to the U.S. with her family as first generation immigrants. Per her father, her family was a bloodline of steel workers and musicians.  Nidia was a graduate of Central High School Bridgeport, CT class of 1961.  She had worked at Ethical Pharmacy in Bridgeport, and had been a factory worker at Clairol (Cody, Nice'n Easy).  She was confirmed Catholic at Saint Augustine Cathedral of Bridgeport.

Nidia notably, throughout her life, enjoyed singing while playing piano, swimming, bowling, family-oriented sports, cooking, shopping, gardening, camping, picnics, bicycling, sewing/crochet, visiting relatives, taking care of family, and spending time with loved ones.  She will be remembered most of all for the love she had for her family and friends, and those who have entered her life, even briefly.  She was always ready to greet everyone with a big smile and hug. She will be greatly missed.

Nidia is survived by her children, Joseph A. Rebo and his wife Sandra of Danbury; Nelson S. Rebo and his wife Kari of Beacon Falls; by her sister Adria A. Baldieri and husband Leroy of Milford; by her grandchildren Cassandra Wolanski and Stephen Rebo; her step grandchildren Sarah, Shayna, and Brandon Shorrock; and her sister in law, Jane Rebo; as well as by many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her brother, Rodolfo Antonio Gonzalez and her daughter Betty Ann Rebo.

Her family would like to extend a special thanks to caregivers and friends at Shady Knoll Health Center of Seymour CT, Bridgeport Health Care Center, and Coleman Park Health & Rehab Nursing Home of Bridgeport.

The family will receive friends at Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, CT on Friday, April 5th, at 11AM.  It should be noted that this date chosen was Nidia's date of birth, as to celebrate her life. Funeral service will take place at 11:30AM. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery, located at 20 Ellsworth Avenue, Danbury, CT.
