Obituary of Edwin C. Shaw, Jr.

Edwin C. Shaw, Jr, of Gaylordsville, died at Danbury Hospital on Tuesday, September 12th.  He was born in New Milford on April 26, 1957, son of the late Edwin C. Sr. and Lois M (Yeomans) Shaw.  “Sonny” as he was lovingly known to family and friends, was a devoted father and grandfather.  He graduated from New Milford High School and spent most of his working years as a self-employed mason.

 

Sonny dedicated many years to the New Milford Youth Baseball and Softball organization.  He loved coaching youth baseball, teaching fundamentals of the game, as well as core values like teamwork and sportsmanship.  He also held many positions on the board, including several years as president of the league, helping develop and grow the organization, and had a profound impact on thousands of youth athletes.  In recognition for all of his contributions to youth sports, he was inducted into the Connecticut Babe Ruth Hall of Fame in 2015. 

 

In retirement, he enjoyed playing in a pool league with his friends.  He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren who were the light of his life.  He was always there support his family at baseball games, cheerleading competitions, and other events.  He was a loving presence at all of the family gatherings, celebrating their accomplishments, and helping them through losses.  He also enjoyed spending summers in Montana with his youngest son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. 

 

He will be sadly missed by his three sons, Chris Mulholland, Joshua Shaw and his wife, Megan, Jeremy Shaw and his wife Nicole, and his grandchildren, Karsyn, Roger, Charlotte, and Nathaniel Shaw.  He is also survived by brothers David Shaw, Michael Shaw, Seth Shaw and Randy Ellis; sisters Mary Shaw, Luana Fry, Carol Shaw, Rebecca Shaw, Jennifer Becker, and Terry Ellis; as well as many nieces and nephews who loved their uncle Sonny.  In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother Robert and sisters Heidi and Anita.

 

Friends are welcome to join the Celebration of Sonny’s life on Saturday, October 28th, between 1-5pm at the New Milford VFW.
