Obituary of Ann Marie Moffa

Ann Marie Moffa, 87, cherished wife of Joseph J. Moffa, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 19, 2023.  She was the beloved mother of Kelly M. Whalen (Thomas) and grandmother of Kaitlin Whalen.

Ann was born in Danbury on April 15, 1935, daughter of the late Jerome and Marion (Keating) McNulty. She was a lifelong resident of Danbury and of Newtown, Connecticut.  Ann was a devoted parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and St. Peter Church.  She was pre-deceased by her parents and her beloved siblings, Jean Minck and Robert McNulty.   Ann cherished her family and friends.  She will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 57 years, Joseph J. Moffa, her daughter Kelly Whalen (Thomas), granddaughter Kaitlin Ann Whalen, nephews Philip Lariccia (Tania), Dominic Lariccia Jr. (Rebecca), Gary Minck, nieces Sharon Minck, Leslie Weber, Lorenzina Davis, Ramona Brunetti (Robert), many beloved great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.   She is survived by very special lifelong friends whom she considered to be her family, and who remained always at her side.

Ann was a proud graduate of St. Peter School in Danbury and of Danbury High School.  She worked for many years at the Southern New England Telephone Company and had fond memories of her co-workers who became lifelong friends.  Ann spent many summers in Westerly, Rhode Island where she enjoyed the company of neighborhood friends, the beach and her summer flower garden.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and extended family of friends.  A talented baker who always had her nose buried in a cookbook, Ann enjoyed making delicious homemade treats for all occasions and later sharing her kitchen and recipes with her granddaughter.  Ann thoroughly enjoyed long Sunday drives with Joe, watching Kaitlin’s softball games, and catching up on the phone with her nearest and dearest.  Ann will always be remembered for her grace, beautiful smile, Irish wit, and selfless ways.

Ann’s family would like to thank her devoted physicians Dr. Kathleen Mauks, Dr. Jonathan Alexander and Dr. Larry Wasser for taking wonderful care of her, along with the staff of Hancock Hall, Danbury Hospital, Ridgefield Visiting Nurse, and Fr. Gregg Mecca of St. Peter Church for his faith-filled compassion and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ann’s Memory may be made to St. Peter Church, 104 Main Street, Danbury, CT 06810.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 10 am. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.  There are no calling hours.
