Obituary of Veronica Ella Mazzucco

Veronica “Ella” Babyak Mazzucco, formerly of Danbury, age 81, wife of Philip E. Mazzucco passed away unexpectedly at home in Rupert, VT.

Ella, as she was known, was born on February 4, 1941 in Danbury to the late Dimitri and Vera (Kissko) Babyak. She was a lifelong resident of Danbury before retiring and moving to Rupert, VT in 2004 with her husband of 61 years, Philip.

She attended Danbury schools and was a majorette of the Hat Makers Drum Corp. After graduating from Danbury High School Ella worked at Union Savings Bank and it was during this time that she met Phil and they were married September 9, 1961.

Ella and Phil built their 1st home where she raised her 8 children living next door to his sister Carol Curesky and her 5 children.   Ella and Carol shared many cups of coffee, crossword puzzles, refereeing kid’s squabbles, shared ER trips, laughter and tears.  Ella and Carol both agree that those were the BEST years.

She assisted Phil in his many business ventures and in her last few years before retiring she worked for her son Michael as an administrative assistant. Ella was an amazing mother, dedicated wife, and an accomplished bowler.

She was a devoted parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Church and was a constant presence at St. Gregory the Great School where all her children attended.

Her greatest joy was raising her 8 children and being a loving and influential Grandma/Mimi to her 8 grandchildren.   She gave unconditional love to all she met, she was kindhearted and giving.  She was a mother to 8 but “mom” to so many more.  She loved everyone and everyone that met her loved her in return.  She traveled extensively with her children and enjoyed every celebratory event.  She was fun and loved being with her family. In her retirement she belonged to Rupert Leisure’s where she played cards weekly, she led a bi-weekly exercise group at the Rupert Fire Department and was active in a weekly bible study group.

Ella is survived by her loving husband Philip, her 8 children Thomas Mazzucco (Karen), Mary Mazzucco-Dobbins (Joseph), Michael Mazzucco, Barbara Mazzucco of Danbury, CT, Ann Marie Mazzucco of Poultney, VT, Theresa Grube (Mark) of Danbury, CT, Philip Mazzucco (Leslie) of Rupert, VT and Nancy Mazzucco-Usuff (Salim) of Middle Granville NY; her 8 grandchildren Anthony and Jena Mazzucco, Kristina Grube, Philip Michael and Ella Marie Mazzucco, and Alexander, Oliver and Lilian Usuff. She is also survived by her sister Carol Curesky (Joseph) and sister-in-law Rosemaire Babyak; as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws and extended family.
