Brookfield - William E. Schappert, Sr. entered eternal rest on September 21, 2021 after a courageous battle with Vascular Dementia at age 90. William E. Schappert, Sr. was born in the Bronx, N.Y. on August 29, 1931, son of Frances A. and William J. Schappert. He was raised in Pelham N.Y., and attended St. Catherine’s Grammar School, Pelham, Blessed Sacrament High School in New Rochelle and Iona College, New Rochelle N.Y. where he be obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in History in June 1953. In later years, he obtained his Master’s of Business Administration degree from the University of Connecticut. Upon completed undergraduate work, he attended Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, R. I. and was commissioned an Ensign in November 1953. On active duty he served as a Communication Officer on the USS Quail, a minesweeper, and later with the Naval Communications Station, Philadelphia. After active duty, he continued to serve as a Communication Training Officer with reserve units of the Naval Security Group and retired as a Senior Lieutenant. After his naval service, he was employed as the administrative assistant to the President of Van Praag Productions, a producer of television commercials and training films. After several years in this position, he became a project administrator for American Machine and Foundry Company and later served as Operations Manager for the AMF Monorail at the New York World’s Fair. At the completion of the Fair, he joined the Perkin–Elmer Corporation in Norwalk, CT. as government Subcontract’s Administrator. He was eventually promoted to Director, Corporate Purchasing and Corporate services, a position he served in until taking advantage of an early retirement program in 1987. Subsequently, he joined the Taunton Press in Newtown, CT as Manager of Purchasing and Facilities and retired in 2000. He was an avid sailor on Candlewood Lake and enjoyed his hobbies of model railroading and woodworking. Bill served as a Zoning Commissioner in Brookfield, CT for some thirty-five years with three terms as its Chairman. He was responsible for the drafting of major regulation changes and became well known for his proficiency in this area. He was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield and active in many of the church’s programs. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Schappert (Conboy, Cooke), and three sons: William Jr. (Lorie) of Amston, CT, Stephen of Brookfield and Mark (Nina) of Waterbury, CT. He is also survived by his grandsons William C. Schappert (Kate), Kyle Schappert (Katie), Michael and Coty and his great-grandson Odin Michael; his stepdaughter Amanda Cooke, David Cooke (Sue), Geoff Cooke as well as step-granddaughters Alex and Makenna Cooke and step-grandsons Josh and Colin Cooke, Shane, Bridget and Ryan Fedigan . Bill was pre-deceased by his wife, Christine and his step-daughter-in-law Marcy Cooke (Geoff). He will be greatly missed by Billy Bear and his 2 doggies Suzie Queen (aka Suziemaguzie) and Riley Rae. We would like to thank the nurses and Palliative Care Doctors at Danbury Hospital for the kindness and compassion they showed to Bill. Special gratitude to Maritza Jimenez and Crystol Cabral for their excellent health care they provided at our home. We also would like to thank the Brookfield Police, Brookfield Volunteer Fire Department, Paramedics and EMTs for their dedication to helping Bill in all hours of the night; and all others who helped care for Bill for the past several years. Bill’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday September 28,2021 from 5 to 7 at the Brookfield Funeral Home 786 Federal Road Brookfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday September 29,2021 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Brookfield. Burial with full Naval honors will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Danbury. My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
