Obituary of Joseph N. Dominakus, Jr.

Joseph N. Dominakus, Jr., 84, of Danbury, cherished husband of Barbara A. (Loya) Dominakus, died peacefully at Maplewood of Newtown on Sunday, September 19th.  He was born in Danbury on March 28, 1937, son of the late Joseph Sr. and Catherine (Novicky) Dominakus.  He was a graduate of Danbury High School.  

Joe was a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corp, who served honorably with distinguished awards.

He worked as a senior consultant for CL&P for over 50 years.

A longtime parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Church, Joe volunteered in many aspects of church life, including serving as a past president of both the Holy Name and the Lay Advisory Board, Bingo volunteer, coordinator of Play Day at the school, and planning of the parish picnics.  

He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans and also served as a past president of the Danbury Exchange Club where he was a member for 20 years.  

Joe loved to play cards, bowl and most importantly, spend time with family.  He was known to always lend a helping hand to anyone who asked.

In addition to his beloved wife, Barbara, he will be missed by his two children, Barbara Braatz and her husband, Timothy, and Thomas Dominakus and his wife, Heidi; his four grandchildren, Brendan and Julia Braatz, Douglas and Benjamin Dominakus.  He is also survived by two sisters, Kay Hansen and Jean Dubins; as well as many nieces and nephews.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 24th at 11:00am at St. Gregory the Great Church.  Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.  

The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Thursday, September 23rd, between the hours of 5:00 – 7:00pm.  

The family kindly asks, in lieu of flowers, to please send a donation for the Prevention of Child Abuse. Checks may be payable to the Danbury Exchange Club Foundation, P.O. Box 763, Danbury, CT 06813.
