Obituary of Kurt Herman Behling

Kurt Herman Behling passed away peacefully at his Danbury home on September 26, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born on October 21, 1939 at Lutheran Hospital in New York City; son of the late Ella (Otten) Behling and Henry Behling.  

Kurt grew up in Yonkers, NY, attended, and graduated from St. Matthew’s Lutheran School in New York City and Concordia Prep High School in Bronxville, NY. During his school days, Kurt enjoyed participating in sports including basketball and wrestling.  

After high school, Kurt went to Nichols College in Dudley, MA and received his Associates Degree in Business Administration in 1959.

After graduation, Kurt started his professional career as a Real Estate Agent in New York City. He enlisted in the US Army National Guard where he served as an Artillery Surveyor from 1961 to 1967. During this time, he established his own company, K.B. Management in Bronx, NY where he worked until his retirement in 2003.

Kurt met his loving wife Priscilla (Kifford) in the church choir at Christ Lutheran Church in Yonkers, NY. They were married for 56 years and raised their family in Danbury, CT. Kurt is survived by his wife Priscilla, his son Scott and wife Stephanie of Sandown, NH, son Roger and wife Michelle of Brookfield, CT, son Peter and wife Heidi of Shelburne, NH, daughter Andrea (Thoennessen) and husband Kurt of Southbury, CT, son Alan and wife Lindy of Southbury, and sister Ella (Behling) Gross.  He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren: Rachel, Drew, Ella, Oliver, Gabby, Kara, Jenna, Mia, Marissa and Amelia as well as 24 nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, his brothers Paul, Henry, and sister Esther (Behling) Zadeik predeceased Kurt.

Kurt was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving on its Boards of Elders, singing in the choir and participating in their church bowling league.

He had many joys in life including golfing, boating, his membership at the Danbury Yacht Club, deep-sea fishing, casino trips, gardening and cooking. Some of his favorite times were playing cards with his family and friends around his kitchen table.   

The family especially would like to acknowledge and thank all of the caring health care providers involved with Kurt’s care over the last several months of his life.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 2 from 4 to 7 pm at Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street in Danbury, CT. For health and safety of all, attendees are asked to wear a mask and follow social distance guidelines. Funeral services and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Kurt’s memory may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 18 Clapboard Ridge Road, in Danbury, CT.
