Obituary of Nelson John Bellmay

Nelson John Bellmay of Danbury passed away on the July 11, 2019, he was 68 years old. After a year and a half battle with cancer, God saw that Nelson was tired and said it was time to come home. 

Nelson was born on April 17th, 1951 to the late Clifford and Helen (Mraz) Bellmay in Ft. Myers, FL.  Nelson grew up in Waterbury, where he attended East Farms Grammar School and was a Class of 1969 graduate from Sacred Heart High School. He worked for the Pitney Bowes Distribution in Newtown for almost 40 years before retiring in 2011.  He was married to Donna Evanuska and together they had three children.  While his children attended St. Gregory the Great School, Nelson became very involved with the Friday night Bingo Games from 1989-2005.

Nelson is survived by his partner of almost 40 years, Donna, his daughter Kellie and husband Rich Bielonko of Trumbull, his son Kevin and wife Carly Brunjes of New Milford and his son Kyle and partner Maggie Butner of Troy, NY.  Nelson is also survived by his eldest sister, Elizabeth “Betsy” Strauss of Raleigh, NC, and his sister Martha and husband Dan Lapman of Ivoryton, CT.  He also leaves behind his nephews Michael and wife Harmony and Jonathan and wife Alison of Raleigh, NC. Nelson also leaves behind many loving family members on both his and Donna’s side of the family, as well as many friends he has made over the years.  Also missing him are his ever-present companions, his loyal dog Pippin, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, and his faithful cat Scooby.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kloss and his team at Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital and his care team from Regional Hospice and Palliative Care of Western CT Danbury, CT.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Gregory the Great Church, in Danbury, on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 11am.  Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
