Obituary of Ella Marie Klein

Ella Marie Holzman Klein has been welcomed into Heaven.  Ella is rejoicing with the loved ones that preceded her and they are all laughing along with her as she shares her humorous embellished stories.  She lived a full and rich life while never taking herself too seriously.  She peacefully passed on June 26, 2019 while a resident of The Saint Mary Home, West Hartford Connecticut

She was born July 15, 1930 in the Bronx, New York to Frederick and Regina (Horn) Holzman who both immigrated to the United States from Germany prior to WWII.

Ella had one sister, Bertha (aka Francis) Holzman Langbehn -deceased (husband Eugene Langbehn) and one brother Edward Holzman- deceased (wife Anna Granahan Holzman).

Ella was very proud of her education at Cathedral High School and Grace Institute Business School both in New York City.

Ella and Louis Charles Klein were married on October 9th, 1954 in the Bronx, New York.  They had many happy years together where they raised their family and built lifetime friendships in the community and at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Brookfield. Lou was incapacitated by strokes and lived out his years at the Abbott Terrace Nursing Home in Waterbury CT.  While a resident there, Ella continued to care for Lou until his passing on December 29, 2001.

First employed as a secretary in the Empire State building where Ella was best known for her stylish clothing. She took a hiatus from paid employment to raised her four children. Upon returning to the work force she worked at Huckleberry Hill Elementary School as a well-loved lunch lady. “Ellie K” was the secretarial placement representative for Lou Klein Associates and later Ella worked in the account receivable departments for Eagle Pencil/ Berol and Lincare. Ella completed her work life as a member of the office staff for Dr. Frederick Kayal.

Ella, the consummate New Yorker and Yankees fan grew up in the Bronx where her family owned a tenement building on Mount Hope Place. She and Lou married and moved to Sommerville, New Jersey. Ella spent most of her 88 years in Brookfield on Arrowhead Point and Merwin Brook Road and later at Nunnawauk Meadows in Newtown, Connecticut.

Ella was best known for her never-ending sense of humor and her devotion to her family, faith and countless friends.  Ella treasured her beloved but poorly behaved dogs - Dinky, Fleagle, Patches, Rudy and Whoopie. Ella enjoyed gardening, sewing, needle work, speaking German, travel, and most of all - cooking.  Her Christmas cookies where a coveted gift and Ella never ever made a bad meal.

Ella was a tireless Catholic Church volunteer at St. Joseph’s and St. Margarite’s all the days of her life.  She was a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, a horse show mom, school volunteer, Pop Warner volunteer, local Republican Committee member, Hospital volunteer and committee member at Nunnawauk Meadows.

Ella is survived by her four children and their spouses: Frederick Louis Klein (Kathy) Biddeford, Maine; Marie Louise Lawrence (Jon) Porter Corners, New York; Stephen Louis Klein (Debbie) Oregon, Wisconsin and Elise Louise Kimball (Jon) Ashby, Massachusetts.

Ella is well loved by her Grandchildren Kristin, David, Regina, Joseph, Samantha, Evan, Morgan and Tanner and Great-grandchildren Ella, Arlie, James, Brave, Jack, Declan and Zarrin.
