Obituary of Efthemious Chamoures

Danbury – Mr. Efthemious Chamoures, age 88, of Danbury passed away suddenly on Wednesday January 23, 2019 at Danbury Hospital. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Frances (Haigh) Chamoures.

 

Mr. Chamoures was born October 26, 1930 in Danbury son of the late James and Evanthea (Gounoukakes) Chamoures. Known to many people by all of his nicknames (Tim, Jimmy, Themie or Sam), he was first employed by Dimyan’s and then moved on to a long career with the City of Danbury Department of Public Works, retiring in 1992.  He was proud of his Greek heritage, watching Greek TV every week. He loved the outdoors including fishing and hunting, often taking time to teach young children how to fish and in his spare time enjoyed watching his grandchildren play their sports and playing games and cards with his family and was a devoted New York Yankees fan.   He loved to bake apple pies and Greek pastry to share with everyone. He was known as the “neighborhood caretaker,” helping his neighbors and many times doing their lawns.

 

Mr. Chamoures proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, having achieved the rank of Corporal.

 

Mr. Chamoures is survived by his children: Tammy Post and her husband Larry of Danbury, Timmy Chamoures and his wife Florence of Watertown and Tina O’Brien and her husband Dan of Danbury, his sister: Mary Carawlanis of Fairfield, his sisters in law: Mercene Chamoures of New Fairfield and Marion Otto of Tennesee, his grandchildren: Lauren Manzi and her husband Mike, Lindsey Post, Stephanie Patterson and her husband Mike, Alyssa Sidorick and her husband Chris and Bradley O’Brien, his great grandson: Trey Patterson and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Andrew Chamoures.

 

Mr. Chamoures’ family will receive relatives and friends at the Cornell Memorial Home on Monday January 28, 2019 from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday January 28, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Church in Danbury. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Danbury.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
