Obituary of Richard Arthur Webb

Richard Arthur Webb, age 73 of Brookfield, known to his friends as “Dick,” passed away on October 9, 2018 after a lengthy and hard-fought battle with emphysema. He was surrounded by his family.

Born February 21, 1945 at Norwalk Hospital to the late Bessie (Bass) Morabito and Francis Webb, Dick lived much of his young life in Danbury and then raised his own family there. He was a graduate of Danbury High School.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 46 years, Judith Webb; as well as both his biological parents. He is survived by his stepfather, (and closest friend,) Peter Morabito, whom he called “Dad” since childhood. He is also survived by his three sons, Richard Webb of Brookfield and his wife, Melinda; Troy Webb of Danbury and his wife, Niclai Flintosh; and Scott Webb of Rochester Hills, MI and his wife, Beth; as well as his seven grandchildren - Morgan, Sydney, Nolan, Deven, Alaina, Rylee and Caden Webb, of whom he was immensely proud. He is also survived by his siblings, Ron Webb of Danbury; Carol Webb of New Milford; Diane Mohs of Danbury; and Janet Bishop of Danbury; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

An unparalleled hard worker in his youth, Dick founded and ran Webb Sanitation for more than 20 years. But despite the long hours and early mornings it entailed, he was a fixture at his son’s sporting events. There was never a question their dad would be sitting there when they looked into the stands.

After selling that company, he became a partner in A&W Landscaping, where he worked for more than a decade. As retirement approached, he then accepted a position as a custodian with the Brewster NY school system, where he worked for 15 years.

In his later years, Dick developed a true appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. A sunny spring morning would invariably find him sitting in the sun, reading a stack of newspapers and watching the wildlife. A Sunday afternoon in the fall meant a remote control in-hand and the New York Giants on the television. And if the New York Yankees were playing, he was watching.

For years, he faithfully attended Western Connecticut Medical Group’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program three times per week, with a group of other patients who quickly became his fast friends. It was with their support - as well as the staff at that facility, including Jen McNerney - that he was able to navigate the difficulties of living with his condition.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, November 23 at 11 a.m. at the Congregational Church of New Fairfield, 20 Gillotti Road, New Fairfield.
