Obituary of Edward Joseph Bohan

Edward Joseph Bohan, age 87, of Brookfield and Englewood, Florida, passed away peacefully Monday August 6, 2018 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by his loving family.  Ed was born March 17, 1931 in Mamaroneck, New York to the late Edward and Theresa Stein Bohan.  He was the devoted husband of 62 years to Doris Jaeck Bohan.

Mr. Bohan proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saipan, where he had the privilege of being the Captain’s chauffeur.  After the Service, Ed applied his strong work ethic in construction, and ultimately built his own business as a paving contractor, EJ Bohan Inc.

Growing up, Ed was a caddy at the prestigious Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, where he developed his lifelong love of golf.  He was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed attending games at Yankee stadium with family during summers in Brookfield; he also looked forward to summer festivals and concerts in the park. He loved travelling around the world, especially to Ireland.  Ed was proud of his faith in God being a lifelong parishioner at St. Joseph in Brookfield and at St. Raphael in Englewood.  It was his love of God that led him to say nightly prayers for over 150 people by name.

Ed was known to all as a fun-loving, generous and kind-hearted soul and will be missed by everyone who met him.  He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and cherished his family.

In addition to his wife, Doris, Ed is survived by his children: Kathleen Bohan-Hlavac and her husband William of Brookfield, Eileen Bohan and her husband Douglas Moulton of Florida, Mary Gilbert and her husband William of Brookfield, Edward Bohan and his wife Helen of Tennessee, and Daniel Bohan and his wife Aurora Rees of New Zealand;  grandchildren: Kyle Hlavac and his wife Alyse, Sean Hlavac, Aidan and Logan Bohan-Moulton, Joseph and Christian Gilbert,  and Heather Bohan;  great-grandchildren: Hunter Hlavac and Aria Gilbert. Additionally, he is survived by his brother Jack Bohan, his wife Dee, and their son, Isaiah (and wife Jenny) of Florida, and many loving cousins and friends.  Ed was predeceased by his daughter, Maureen Bohan.

Ed’s family would like to thank the staff of Danbury Hospital ED and ICU for their extraordinary care and support during this difficult time.
