Obituary of Rosario A Butera

New Fairfield – Mr. Rosario A. Butera, age 85, of New Fairfield, passed away peacefully on Friday August 3, 2018 at the Regional Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Danbury. He was the loving husband, for 60 years, of Judith (Dunn) Butera.

Mr. Butera was born July 1, 1933 in Danbury son of the late Rosario and Frances (Gillotti) Butera. He was retired after working as a school teacher and was a very active communicant of St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church in New Fairfield. He began his teaching career in East Hartford and also taught at the Millridge School, served as a Guidance Counselor at Beaver Brook and taught in Bridgewater. He founded the R.E.S.C.U.E. Program,   a program for special needs students,  in Bridgewater and moved it to Litchfield where it is still active today.  He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed bowling. He and was a member and past president of the Lions Club and a member of the New Fairfield council of the Knights of Columbus. 

Mr. Butera proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.

In addition to his wife Judith, Mr. Butera is survived by his son Richard Butera of California, his daughter: Karen Hunter and her husband William of New Fairfield, his grandchildren: Kevin, Ryan and Katie Hunter and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings: Evo Butera, Arline Carvette and Rose Salvatore.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday August 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Church in New Fairfield. Family and friends are asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in New Fairfield. There are no calling hours. The Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
