Obituary of Sr. Mary Orontia Walsh, SSND

Sister Mary Orontia Walsh, a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, died on June 3, 2018      at Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton, CT at age 89.   Orontia (Bobbie) was born on December 29, 1928 in Medford, MA, the daughter of Joseph Henry Walsh and Mary Agnes Cotter.

 

After pronouncing her vows as a School Sister of Notre Dame in 1949,  Orontia began teaching at St. Ann School in Baltimore, MD.  She then spent almost 50 years at St. Peter’s School and Parish in Cambridge, MA.  Orontia retired in 2014 to Villa Notre Dame, Wilton, CT and then moved to Lourdes Health Care Center.

 

Mary Orontia was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Henry Jr, and her sisters, Sister Miriam Joseph SSND, and Marie Mac Donald.  She is mourned by her sisters, Miriam Murray,  Marjorie Harrington, Patricia Commerford, Joanne Visconte, Marilyn Del Checcola, loving nieces, nephews, and friends, and by the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

 

Friends may call at Villa Notre Dame, 345 Belden Hill Road in Wilton, CT, on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. with a Christian wake service at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2018, in the Chapel at Villa Notre Dame. Burial will be at 12:30pm on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at St. Benedicts Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA. 

 

The family requests that rather than flowers Memorial contributions be made to the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Atlantic-Midwest Province, c/o Development, 345 Belden Hill Road, Wilton, CT 06897.
