Obituary of Mary Ernestine Uhle

Mary E. Uhle, 73, died unexpectedly, at home surrounded by her family, on Thursday, November 19th.  She was born in New York, NY on May 25, 1942, beloved daughter of the late Alfred and Mary J. (Timoney) Uhle.  She earned her Master's Degree in Education from St. John University.  She is the published co-author of the book “Where Credit is Due” and served proudly as President of the Teacher’s Union and Brewster Teacher’s Association for many years.

While Mary was passionate about education and found great satisfaction in her 32 years of teaching English, the center of her life was her family.  Her love and generosity were showered upon all she loved.  She lived for the time she could spend with her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.  She instilled the love of reading and was a constant cheerleader for whatever they each chose to do, whether it be a sport or a musical.  She loved to give special time to each child which often resulted in trips to the circus, Basketball or Baseball Halls of Fame or a theatrical production. She was also a volunteer and past president of the Putnam Country Children's Committee, working to help children in need.

You could always find Aunt Mary watching the Hallmark Channel or SVU while doing her gorgeous needle work which she would loving give in celebration of major life events.  These many items will be cherished by all who gifted with them.

She will be sadly missed by her two sisters, Pat Leopold of  FL, and Judy Fosina and her husband Bob of  NY; her four nephews, Robert Leopold (Robbin) of CA and their children Patrick, Miranda Nikki, Robert Fosina (Dorothy) of CT and their children Mikayla, Bobby and Michael; James Fosina (Marina) of CT and their children RaeAnn, Christie, Marissa and Nicolas; David Leopold (Kisha) of FL and their children Taylor, Austin, Idel and Janae; her three nieces, Julie DeLuca (Vinny) of CT and their children Lorenzo and Vincent;  Kim Luis of FL and her children Christopher, Judah and Domineeka; and Kelliann Murphy (Brian) of NY and their children Brianna, Kellina and Brian.  She is also survived by her best friend Fran Bubley.

She was predeceased by her Brother-in-law Bob Leopold and nephew, Victor Luis.  These two men were very special to her and the loss of them left a great void in her life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 24th at 11:00am at St. Gregory the Great Church, Danbury, CT.  Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Queens, NY will follow.

The family will receive friends at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, on Monday between the hours of 4:00 and 7:00pm.
