Obituary of John Edward Sweet
John E. Sweet, Sr., 75, of Brookfield, beloved husband of the late Gail M. (Daskam) Sweet, died peacefully at Danbury Hospital on Wednesday, March 23rd. He was born in Norwalk on May 11, 1940, one of the eleven children of Edwin J. and Katherine (Lovett) Sweet.
Jack worked as a supply attendant for SBC, retiring in 2004. A Master Mechanic, he had also worked for area dealerships, including Bragg Motors and McLaughlin Ford.
Jack was an avid boater and fisherman. He loved stream fishing, ice fishing, and fishing Candlewood Lake with his youngest son, Richard.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed mentoring his grandsons, and was instrumental in guiding them both toward the honor of Eagle Scout.
Jack will be remembered as a man who would help anyone in need.
He will be sadly missed by his two sons, John E. Sweet, Jr. “Jack,” and his wife, Deborah of New Milford, and Richard H. Sweet, of Brookfield; his grandsons, John A. and Christopher R. Sweet. He is also survived by his brother, James Sweet and his wife, Pam and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by five brothers, Edwin, Charles, William, Alfred, Joseph and four sisters, Shirley Sweet, Edna McGregor, Phoebe Dunlap and Marion Brown.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, March 29th at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield. The Rev. Joseph Shepley of St. Paul Episcopal Church will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Brookfield Funeral Home on Monday between the hours of 4:00 and 7:00pm.
