Obituary of Richard Charles Sterk

Richard (Dick) C. Sterk, 79, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by his family.  Born July 28, 1938, in New York, New York, he was the son of the late Al Sterk and Josephine (Glasser) Sterk.

A long time resident of Danbury, Connecticut, Dick retired from a near 30 year career at General DataComm.  A civic-minded person, he was involved in the Boy Scouts and served for several years as a member of the Connecticut State Police Auxiliary.

Dick served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Robert H. McCard (DD 822) hunting Soviet submarines at the height of the Cold War in the icy North Atlantic and the 1958 Lebanon Crisis (Operation Blue Bat).  He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors – the National Association of Destroyer Veterans.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Leslie Sterk; along with his two sons Christopher and Jayne Sterk of New Milford, Conn., and Richard and Joanne Sterk of New Milford, Conn.; five grandchildren, Emily, Katie, Matthew, Michael, and Rachael; and many loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and relatives who all meant the world to him.  As is said in the Navy, Dick is not gone from us but rather “still on patrol.”
