Obituary of Donald Robert Novicky

Donald R. Novicky, Sr., 83, of New Fairfield, loving husband of the late Janet E. (Norton) Novicky, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, August 25, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  He was born in Danbury on August 9, 1934, son of the late Joseph and Irma E. (Underhill) Novicky.  He was a graduate of Danbury Schools. 

Mr. Novicky was a Veteran of the Korean War, proudly serving with the United States Navy on the USS Samuel B. Roberts. He had worked as a supervisor for Risdon Corp. for several years, moving on to Joseph E. Novicky, Inc, and later co-owned and operated Danbury Insulation Co. Inc. along with his brothers.  Upon retirement he worked for IDS Investments. He was a member of the Congregational Church of New Fairfield where he served as a past Trustee.  He was also active with his wife, Janet, in the church Couples Club, bowled with the Men’s League, and sang in the church choir. He enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, and spending time with his family.  

Mr. Novicky will be remembered as a “true gentleman,” who was outgoing and welcoming to all.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his loving children and their spouses, Pamela and Nicholas Dohan, James and Susan Novicky, Stephen Novicky, and Linda and James Green, all of New Fairfield, and Lisa and Stephen Fassbender of Scotland; his beloved grandchildren, Jennifer, Kelly, Danielle, Amy, Andrew and Elijah Novicky, Nicole, Thomas and Brian Ifkovits, Amanda Blair, Gregory and Matthew Dohan, and Sean Green; his great grandchildren, Carina, Carlos, Anthony, Blake, Brooklyn, and Connor; his former daughter-in-law, Joyce Novicky; his brother, John Novicky; and his sisters, Helen Price and Judy Longo.  He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Sandra Paradise, and Patricia Norton; many nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as numerous friends. 

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sons, Keith Novicky, and Donald Novicky, Jr; his brother, Joseph Novicky; and sister, Barbara Waldo. 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 29th at 10:00 am at the Congregational Church of New Fairfield with Rev. Carl Anderson officiating.  Burial will follow in Mountainview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Monday between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Congregational Church of New Fairfield Scholarship Fund, 20 Gillotti Road, New Fairfield, CT. 06812.  Or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
