Obituary of Sally Murphy
Sally Murphy, age 86, of Brookfield, died peacefully on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Candlewood Valley Health Center in New Milford. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas D. Murphy, Jr.
Mrs. Murphy was born on January 23, 1929, in Brooklyn, NY, a daughter of the late Raymond and Louise (King) Dalton. She and her husband were married and made their home in Brookfield where they raised their 6 children. She was a long time member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Co. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church for over 30 years. Sally, an extremely creative person, loved quilting, needlework and painting. She enjoyed sharing these gifts with her children. After Mr. Murphy retired from the Town of Brookfield, they enjoyed 20 years of retirement in Maine. They passed on their legacy of love for the outdoors to their children and grandchildren. Sally was a devoted mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her six children: Linda Williams, Sharon Pacific and her husband, Jim, Colleen Martone and her husband, Glenn, Michael Murphy and his wife, Robin, all of Brookfield; Nancy Verville and her husband, Woody, of Pownal, Maine and Robert Murphy of Middleboro, MA; 9 grandchildren: Joey, Kellie, Tommy, Christopher, Nicholas, Christine, Danny, Erin and Shane; and 9 great-grandchildren: Taylor, Avery, Gabriel, Oakleigh, Ashlyn, Tyler, Summer, Sadie and Lyla; a sister: Louise Phillips of Deltona, FL, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers John and Herbert Dalton.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Murphy's memory may be made to the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Co., 92 Pocono Rd, Brookfield, CT 06804.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 16, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Church, 163 Whisconier Road, Brookfield. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Roxbury. There are no calling hours. The Brookfield Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
