Teresa (McDermott) Hegarty, 84, wife of the late John F. Hegarty, died Tuesday, June 21st at home in Brookfield after a long struggle with Parkinson's and heart disease. Teresa was born April 27, 1927, in New York, NY. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Martha (McNally) McDermott.
Teresa is survived by three sons, John Hegarty and his wife Laura of Newtown, Robert Hegarty and his wife Regina of Brookfield and James Hegarty and his wife Donna of Brookfield; four daughters, Teresa White and her husband James of Brookfield, Jacqueline Newman and her husband Robert of Simsbury, Nora Buck and her husband Louis of Queensbury, NY, and Mary Nowlan of Montpelier, VT; two sisters, Mary H. McDermott of Simsbury and Patricia King of Denville. NJ; Teresa also leaves behind 23 grandchildren, Teresa and Jimmie; Bobby, Jacki, Nora and Jimmy; Molly, Kerry, Liz, Tara, Monica and Matt; Doug, Casey and Rick; Bridget, Tess and Jack; Martha, Addie and Louis; Tom and Maggie; and seven great grandchildren, Lukas, Emma, Avery, Wolfgang, Ozzy, Taylor and Lilly.
Besides her husband, Teresa was predeceased by her infant brother, James, and her brother-in-law, Edward J. King, Sr. and her sister-in-law Sr. Mary Hegarty, P.V.M.
Teresa was a devoted mother to her large family, demonstrating her love daily in the expansive meals she prepared every day up until her illness took hold. At different points in her life, she loved to travel, play bridge, bowl, dance and entertain friends. Until the end, she loved to spend time with her family, listen to Irish music and reminisce.
The family wishes to thank their sister Terry for her decades of devotion to caring for our mother and father. We would all also like to thank Letticia Letsoalo for the loving care she gave to our mother for the past 5 1/2 years. Funeral Information
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 25th, at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield, with burial to follow in Wooster Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, June 24th at Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Rd, Brookfield, CT.
