Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth Gray

Margaret Elizabeth Gray October 30, 1929 - October 25, 2014 Margaret Elizabeth Gray Margaret E. Gray died at home on Saturday, October 25, 2014. Margaret (Peggy) was born on Oct 30, 1929 and was raised in Brooklyn NY. The oldest of 11 children of John and Mary Gray, she was a devoted and generous daughter and sister. Her admiration and concern for her family was the stuff of legend. Each year, for what would eventually be 21 nieces and nephews, not a birthday was missed as cards and gifts arrived to commemorate the occasion. She enthusiastically welcomed visitors, with a wink and a nod to parents as a coke and a cupcake were surrepticiously presented to the children. Peggy retired from the New York telephone company in 1984. With postcards and letters informing her of their adventures and travel, Peggy loved to share news of the accomplishments of family members. Peggy was always willing to help out a family member in need. She also served as family historian with a ritual of family photographs taken at every gathering. A devoted daughter, Peggy would often be found enjoying soap operas with her mother, admiring her father's rose garden. She was at their sides for every need. Also, the original Anglophile, Peggy collected information and artifacts about the British Royal family. Predeceased by her parents, brother John, sisters Marie Gray, Grace Gray and Catherine McGuinness, brothers-in-law Peter McCafferty, Frank Santi, Eneas Lane. Peggy is survived by sisters Ronnie Gray, Ann Santi, Virginia McCafferty, Pat Lane; brothers Neil and Michael; in-laws Hugh McGuinness and Nora Gray and Carol Pratt and 21 nieces, nephews and 40 grandnieces and grandnephews.
