Alma Claire Granja, age 81, of Danbury, died peacefully on March 1, 2011 at River Glen Rehab Center in Southbury. She was the cherished wife of Manuel Silva Granja.
She was born in Danbury on July 10, 1929, a daughter of the late Burr and Margaret (Morrisey) Young. She was a member of the 1949 graduating class of Danbury High School. Mrs. Granja worked at Davis & Geck, and Capitol Machine before becoming a child caregiver. Her interests included playing family card games, the Yankees, and children. She was a devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Granja was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Danbury.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, she is survived by 2 sons: Michael Granja and his wife, Allene, of Middlebury and Joseph Granja and his wife, Christine, of Southbury;3 brothers: John, Charles and Robert Young; a sister: Joan Cushnie; and 6 grandchildren: Tahlya, Heather, Kevin and Olivia Granja; Matthew and Samantha Granja and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 4 brothers: Eugene, Burr, George and Richard Young and 2 sisters: Geraldine McNamara and Marie Young. Funeral Information
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 10:00am at St. Joseph Church, Danbury. Interment in St. Peter's Cemetery will follow. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury between the hours of 6:00pm and 8:00pm.. Donations Information
