Obituary of Henry Fitze
Henry Fitze
August 28, 1922 - February 24, 2011
Henry Fitze, of Sandy Hook, Newtown, beloved husband of Elsie (Eisele) Fitze, died peacefully at Masonicare of Newtown on Thursday, February 24th. He was born in Astoria, Queens, NY on August 28, 1922, son of the late Henry T. and Mary (Stackowiak) Fitze.
Mr. Fitze was a Veteran of World War II serving with the United States Army Air Corp. He worked as an electrical engineer for MA Bell in NYC for many years, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
In his younger years, he was an active member of Christ Church in New Hyde Park, NY, where he volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher, was a member of the church council, and sang in the choir. He also enjoyed volunteering with the Cub Scouts teaching woodworking to children.
Most importantly, he was a loving family man who will be sadly missed.
In addition to his cherished wife of 67 years, Elsie, he is survived by his son, Paul H. Fitze and his wife, Maria; his daughter, Ruth Anne Group and her husband, Corbett; his grandchildren, Joanna Horvath and her husband, Alexander, Susanna Schorling and her husband, Brian King, George Hakkila and his wife, Caroline and Ida Hakkila and her husband, Kendall Pigg; and one great grandchild, Mance William Kendall. He is also survived by his sisters, Marion Huether, Joan Connor, and Carol Fitze; his dear friends, Gerry Swanson, and Dr. Matt Farrell and his wife, Maureen, and their children, Eileen, Luke, Sean and Kevin Farrell; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was predeceased by his brother, Ted Fitze. Funeral Information
Funeral Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Tuesday, March 1st at 1:00pm. Burial will be in Newtown Village Cemetery in the spring.
The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday morning between the hours of 12:00 and 1:00pm. Donations Information
In lieu of flowers the family requests the donations be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church or to a charity of one's choice.
