Obituary of Dorothy Mary Ferris
Dorothy Mary Ferris
February 06, 1933 - February 05, 2011
Someone once said, 'the death of a mother is the first sorrow wept without her.'
Dorothy Mary Ferris, a longtime resident of Danbury, died February 5, 2011. Born in Shenandoah, PA, on February 6, 1933, Dorothy was a longtime resident of Danbury before retiring in Florida. She spent the last couple of years in Connecticut and Virginia devoted to her family. She loved life and was always active and taking care of others. She continued her profession as a hair stylist in retirement and never went anywhere without her scissors and comb, happily trimming, cutting, coloring and styling for anyone who asked. Crossword puzzles, gardening and painting were her passions and we never visited her in Florida without gaining a few pounds from her famous sun brewed iced tea. She was a devout Catholic and we take comfort in the thought that she has now been reunited with her father, mother, brothers and other loved ones that passed on before her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Ferris, Jr.
A loving and caring mother, sister, and grandmother, she will be mourned by four generations. She will be sadly missed by children, Candis McCarty and husband Matt, Charles Ferris, and Jay Ferris and wife Sokha; sister Pat Durkin and husband John; 8 grandchildren; and 2 great granddaughters.
