Dominic J. Darmento
March 04, 1923 - July 05, 2014 Dominic J. Darmento
Mr. Dominic J. Darmento, 91, of Brookfield, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Candlewood Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center in New Milford. He was the husband of the late Marilyn Stewart (Markle) Darmento.
Dominic was born in Danbury on March 4, 1923, son of the late Angelo and Marguerite (Petrella) Darmento. He attended St. Peter's School, graduated from Danbury High School and took courses in electronics and music at Danbury Teacher's College. Music was Dom's passion. In 1938, he heard a recording of Louis Armstrong's "I've Got a Right to Sing the Blues" and was inspired to learn to play music. Dom went to a pawn shop in New York where he purchased a trumpet for $28. He was instructed by Mr. William Dalton of Danbury and Mr. John Egan of New York City and soon began playing in organized bands. For over 70 years, Dom performed with many clubs. He was a member of the International Trumpet Guild, the Danbury Musicians Association and the Danbury Vespucci Club. Dom's daytime career was in sales. To the many music and sales associates, as well as friends, Dom was often called "Ming", which was his license plate. Dom was a lifelong resident of Brookfield and Danbury and will be missed by numerous friends.
He leaves behind three stepchildren, Peter and his wife Marianne Markle of Shrewsbury, MA, David Markle of Blue Hill, ME and Christine and her husband David Larsen of Huntington Beach, CA. He was predeceased by a brother, Josef Darmento and a sister, Rockina Darmento. Funeral Information
