Ruth E. (Berglund) Burr, 79, of Brookfield, loving and devoted wife of almost 60 years to Donald Chase Burr, died peacefully at home on Sunday night, July 24th. She was born on April 1, 1932 in Sandy Hook, Connecticut, daughter of the late Harry George and Effie (Orcutt) Berglund.
Ruth graduated from Hawley High School in 1950 and attended Becker Junior College. She started her professional life as a public servant for the town of Brookfield as an assistant Town Clerk from 1963-1977. Ruth then served as a highly respected Town Clerk from 1978-1998, when she retired.
Ruth and Don raised their three children in Brookfield and have lived there for 60 years. Ruth cherished her family and spent as much time as possible with her adult/children, grand children and great grand children. She also enjoyed volunteering; as she was a long standing member of the First Congregational Church of Brookfield and a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Brookfield Fire Department. Her hobbies included water aerobics at the YMCA, gardening, knitting (especially for her grandchildren.) She enjoyed a lifetime of traveling with her husband. They camped, and traveled abroad, as well as around the country.
Along with her husband, Don, Ruth is survived by her son, Donald C. Burr Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Brookfield, her daughters; Debra B. Loya and her husband George Jr. of New Milford, and Kimberly Heisholt of Barnet, Vermont, as well as 13 grand children and three great grand daughters . She is survived by three sisters: Edith Tenney of Sandy Hook, Helen Augelli of North Carolina, and Janet Taylor of Fredericksburg, VA. and one brother, Harold Berglund and his wife Eunice of Sandy Hook. She was predeceased by her brother Kenneth Berglund. Funeral Information
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 on Saturday, July 30th at the Congregational Church of Brookfield , Route 25, Brookfield. Donations Information
