Joan York, age 52, loving and beloved daughter, sister and aunt, died suddenly on July 7, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury. She was born in Passaic, NJ and grew up in New Jersey and Connecticut. Joan graduated from Brookfield High School and worked for many years as a Production Supervisor at Kimchuk, Inc. in Danbury. Joan loved spending time with friends and family and cherished her niece and nephews. She was a devoted animal lover, having many adoring canine companions during her life. Joan was always the first person to offer a helping hand to anyone, even though her journey had some difficult times.
She is survived by her mother, Theresa York of Brookfield, CT, her twin sister Ann Leffert and her husband Tim of Southport, her sister Elizabeth Berger and her husband Fred of New Milford and her brother Jon York of Nantucket, MA. She is also survived by her nephews Matt Leffert of Brooklyn, NY, Christopher and Ryan Wendt of New Milford and her niece Jamie Leffert of Southport, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. She also leaves her very special friend David Buchelli. She was predeceased by her father, John York. Calling hours will be at the Brookfield Funeral Home at 786 Federal Road in Brookfield, CT on Thursday July 12, 2012 from 4-6 PM. A memorial service at the funeral home will follow immediately at 6 PM. Donations Information
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joan's name can be made to the Humane Society or Animal Welfare Society.
