Obituary of Claire G. Waddell

Claire G. (Landry) Waddell December 31, 1931 - July 19, 2004 Claire (Landry) Waddell, of 12 Cedar Drive, Danbury, died at Danbury Hospital on Monday, July 19th. She was born in Petit de Gras, Nova Scotia on December 31, 1931, the daughter of Martha Jane and Albany Landry. Claire moved to Danbury with her husband and daughter in 1968. She worked in retail at Genung's and DM Reads, local department stores. Claire collected depression glass and china teacups and saucers. She was a kind and generous woman and she will be missed by her neighbors, friends and large extended family. Claire's husband Donald passed away in 1992, she is survived by her daughter Phyllis of Danbury, her sisters Estelle Marleau (Ottawa), Edith Stanhope and Aurine Landry (Halifax) and Eleanor LeForte (Charlottetown) and her brothers Charlie Landry and Louis Landry (Petit de Gras), Harry Landry (Halifax) and Alfred Landry (Vero Beach), and many nieces and nephews. Claire was diagnosed with ALS, a progressive neuromuscular disease, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, in February of 2003. She lost her ability to speak but she never lost her ability to smile and she was grateful for the love and support of her family, friends and neighbors and the care provided by the medical professionals that tried to help improve her quality of life and make her more comfortable. Funeral Information A memorial service will be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Cornell Memorial is in charge of arrangements. Donations Information At the request of the family, donations may be made to: Friends of Claire Foundation, Inc., 28 Hidden Brook Drive, Stamford, CT 06907. Money raised by this not for profit fund will support research for a cure for ALS and will benefit Claire Collier (Stamford), a young wife and mother of three, who was diagnosed with ALS last year.
