Obituary of Joseph J. Vasaturo

Joseph J. Vasaturo Sr. June 03, 1918 - January 02, 2005 Joseph John Vasaturo, Sr., age 86, of Brookfield, died on Sunday, January 2, 2005 at Danbury Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Mary (DeVito) Vasaturo. Mr. Vasaturo was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 3, 1918 a son of the late Michael and Anna (Allegrante) Vasaturo. He was raised in New York and moved to Brookfield in 1944. Mr. and Mrs. Vasaturo were sole proprietors of several local shops. They opened "Joes Corner", a variety store located at the Four Corners in Brookfield, a shoe store in Brookfield and then later opened a shoe store in the Davis & Hoyt building. A barber by trade, Mr. Vasaturo opened Brookfield Barber & Stylist Shop, which was the first barber shop in Brookfield and later went on to add another shop in Brookfield as well as in New Milford. Affectionately known as "Papa Joe" by his customers he took pride in serving several generations of the same family. He always treated everyone as if they were a member of his own family. Mr. Vasaturo found time to serve his community and was a past member of the Moose Lodge, the Brookfield Country Players, St. Joseph Minstrel, the Connecticut Grange, he was a charter member of the Amerigo- Vespucci Lodge, and the Sportsman Club where he was a founding member and served as a past president. Besides his wife of 67 years, he is survived by his children: Ann Marie Chauvin and her husband, Pete of New Milford, Patricia McGee of Maitland, FL, Joseph J. Vasaturo ,Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Danbury, Andrew Vasaturo and his wife, Diane,of Brookfield, and Mari Ann Lasky of New Milford; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Vasaturo of Brookfield; a brother: Salvatore Vasaturo of East Haven; 23 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Vasaturo, one brother and three sisters. Funeral Information The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2005 at the First Assembly of God Church, Brookfield at 10:00am. A graveside committal service will be held in the spring. The family will receive friends on Wednesday , January 5, 2005 from 5:00 to 8:00Pm at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield.
