Obituary of Virginia Ann Swenson

Virginia Ann Swenson June 26, 1934 - December 03, 2010 Virginia Ann (Garcia) Swenson, formerly of 95 Great Plain Road, Danbury, wife of the late Roy S. Swenson, died peacefully on Friday, December 3rd at Danbury Hospital. She was born in Danbury on June 26, 1934, daughter of the late Fausto and Mae (Machado) Garcia. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart School and Danbury High School, Class of 1951. She was a founding member of St. Gregory the Great Church where she also served as Eucharistic Minister. Mrs. Swenson was a lifelong member of the Danbury community, and was raised on Cleveland St. In her early years she worked as a secretary for Risdon Corp, where she met her beloved husband, Roy. She later went on to own and operate, alongside Roy, The Tractor Barn in Brookfield. She retired from Dr. Joseph Paravati's office where she worked as a secretary. She was proud to be a Democrat and was a member of the Town Committee. She also served as Registrar of Voters in Danbury for many years, was past President of the Junior Service League, and was a Justice of the Peace. She also enjoyed serving on the Danbury High School, Class of 1951 Reunion Committee. Mrs. Swenson helped establish the Vincent Chesto Scholarship Fund, was a member of the Germantown Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and proudly served on the committee responsible for the creation and dedication of the Korean War Memorial in Danbury. She was a member of Vale's Grove Country Club in Peach Lake, NY. Her greatest love was her children, Mark Swenson and his wife, Nancy of Southbury, Paul Swenson and his wife, Shirley of Danbury, John Swenson of Danbury, and Lynn Alvarez and her husband, Marco of Danbury; and her grandchildren, Kimberly, Daniel, Kevin, Tori, Nicole, Kara, Roy, Matthew, and Karina. She will also be sadly missed by her best friends, Lorraine Sturges, Ada Cole, and Ruth Goetz; as well as her nieces, Debbie, Cindy and Terri. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 10th at 10:00am at St. Gregory the Great Church. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Thursday December 9th between the hours of 4:00 and 7:00pm.
